Everything & Nothing (Slow Motion)

Sailors dance and chandeliers glimmer, reeling on in slow motion
And as the house lights get steadily dimmer, we all sense the commotion
Tablecloths laid; centerpieces centred; candles lit, chargers charged, all ready for the night
Kisses under stars and perfect moonlight, & at the end it all resolves and everything’s all right
Piling on the hopes and dreams and wishes for what never seems
To come alive for kith and ken (instead you play that role again)
Wait in vain for Valentines, raise a glass in toast each time
Wishing well to all good men (starts to take its toll again)
Rain and wind and sun and snow reveal all that we need to know
Yet all these things appeal to me, reveal to me everything & nothing
The ballroom fills as necklaces shimmer, champagne flows from its fountain
The plot reveals a sinister figure coming down from the mountain
But we were all wrong; she’s really a hero: Arriving in the nick of time to put things back to right
The villain’s gone; clock set to zero; and everyone is safe again (except for our hero)
Piling on the hopes and dreams and wishes for what never seems
